NonSimplicity

Passion of weeds
or love like a rose?
What do we sow
and whoever knows?

Typical symbols
of storybooks told-
chasing a rainbow,
looking for gold.
Greener pastures,
brighter days-
yonder where the sun doth play.

Maybe what we want to see
isn't always there,
hidden in a secret garden
along with other dreams ditched without care.

A castle for one
A bridge for another.
A fighting soldier
and star crossed lovers,
a distant friend
or a terrible foe-
where our life takes us
nobody knows.

Coupled with love
doubled with hate
Whichever we choose
is another man's fate.

None the Same

I came across a man one day
And it seemed he had a lot to say
But it was only spoken with his eyes
For his voice was compromised

Through catching glance
He conveyed by chance
A love he had not gained
Looking back it was such a shame

A marvelous fellow
Although rather mellow
His smile overwhelmed one’s heart
Only then till he fell apart

For when sorrow took place
It appeared on his face
And his demeanor was as grey as the rain
But he loved her all the same

The man with telling eyes
Never could find a deflector or disguise
As the love he could never achieve
Became his swollen grief

Everyone could tell
The pain he could not quell
It ate him up inside
This love he never denied
But one he could not attain
For she loved him none the same

Passerby

A statue stood in front of me
not quite the image I thought to see
for when I looked upon it's face
there was a mirrored image in it's place
But looking upon this molded stone
I realized it was all alone
except for I looking on I
yet I seemed to be just a passerby
Hardly recognizing what I saw
it seems I stood there in great awe
not because it was nearly artistic perfection
but due to the lack of knowing my own reflection

Open Book

Looking through a different lens
than most people do
the message that I comprehend
is something meant for you
and if only you would take a look
you'd view my thoughts quite clearly
because I'm like an open book
and it only takes a query
to make me disclose what I see
it only takes time to behold it...
Oh what you could see!
And it all begins with me.

Fighting Yourself

I won't.
But maybe...
I could?
No!
Yet...
Slipping falling
heart is calling,
waging war
without keeping score,
on the sleeve
yet I don't believe,
not wanting
emotions haunting...
Holding back,
gave some slack,
shouldn't ever-
now or never.
Love the divide,
can't decide.
Leaning toward
going forward
maybe I could...
maybe you would...
feel something?
Anything.
Maybe there's a possibility?
And if not oh well-
best to not dwell.

The Prince and His Girl

A story told
it sounds like gold,
the tale is worth a tell.
A girl in a castle
seems such a hastle
to a prince doing all too well,
he's loaded with coins
he's girded his loins
he'll fight till the monster doth fail-
then the girl will come running,
looking most stunning
in a white dress and matching veil.
For the two, a happy life,
a husband and his wife-
in the end love doth prevail!

I'm Doing Just Fine On My Own

What do you do when the world turns on you
do you sit back and watch things explode?
What do you say at the end of the day
when you're mad but there's nobody home?

You tell a lie to yourself in your head
then you revise what you said in your head

Do you need anybody?
I'm doing just fine on my own
Don't you want anybody?
Can't people just leave me alone...

What do you think at the end of the week
when everything has gone all wrong?
What might you do when a problem's in view
do you turn and run the other way?

You tell a lie to yourself in your head
then you revise what you said in your head
you tell a lie to yourself in your head
to yourself
in your head.
